Winter’s cold exterior temperatures and dry, heated interiors can leave your skin flaky and dull. To exfoliate and moisturize, try these easy at-home scrubs featuring delicious ingredients from your kitchen. After applying, avoid harsh soaps and cleansers. Instead, gently rinse face with warm water and blot dry with a cotton towel. When refrigerated, extra scrub will keep for up to one month.
1. Brown sugar and coconut oil. Brown sugar’s granules lend this scrub just enough texture to gently remove any dull, dead skin, while silky coconut oil penetrates skin to lock in moisture without a heavy, waxy finish.
Mix ½ cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon coconut oil.
2. Honey and flaxseed. Honey has humectant properties—meaning it draws moisture to the skin—and ground flaxseed lends healthy omega fatty acids while exfoliating skin.
Mix 3 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, 1 tablespoon almond or jojoba oil.
3. Sea salt and lavender. Mineral-rich sea salt makes for an excellent exfoliation treatment, but go easy: too much scrubbing can irritate skin. The luxurious aroma of lavender soothes stress and tension.
Mix in a blender: 1 tablespoon dried lavender, 1 tablespoon sea salt, 1½ tablespoons almond or jojoba oil.
